You can hate 4Kids dubbing but bringing YuGiOh over has done so much in the long run. The impact of this import had such a huge influence on children’s television.

Can we just appreciate that kaiba instead of solving all the worlds problems made a machine that can bring you to a magical afterlife to challenge a dead man to a children’s card game after being sacked by exodia

I can remember being a kid and being PISSED when the Noah arc pops up all of a sudden. It was interesting, and I liked the arc, but man, the placement 😭 however, I can remember cackling whenever they would flash back to the blimp and it’s just Marik walking around by himself like “where the heck is everyone!”

Fun fact: Kaiba Land was always intended to be free for orphans

I think something worth mentioning is when yugi's puzzle gets shattered in season 2, Yami Bakura puts a portion of his soul in the puzzle which becomes a focal point down the line.

I like that Dark side of dimensions exists to give closure to a lot of things for the OG generation of Yugioh. Like Kaiba's obsession with Yami Yugi and having never gotten to get his own closure with Atem. And also implying that Yugi and Tea are basically a thing. Also admitting that Bakura is THE bastard of the entire OG series and almost every issue is entirely related to Yami Bakura

1:1 you might have mentioned it but the best part is that though we know shonen jump likely forced the transition a little, in one of his little write-ins at the beginning of each issue, he claimed that he was happy with the redirection because children were playing card games together instead of video games. And expressing the joy in friendships formed by playing games together was his motivation for the original series.

So many children became best friends on the playground because they played Yugioh together. Mission accomplished!

I've always thought it was hilarious that Kaiba is the only one who can see Yugi transform. It gives me the same vibes as Dib who is the only one to immediately see zim for the alien he is.

Yugioh means a lot to me. Not only I was a 90s kid who loved the card game, but I also love board games in general, so discovering season 0 was amazing. I always wished Takahashi had the chance to continue with the original formula, his board game ideas were very interesting. During the pandemic, he posted to his instagram a lot of board game concepts, some of which i would like to see come to reality one day. He was a board game enthusiast first and foremost, so I feel really connected to him.

Bonus points, I met my wife thanks to yugioh, in a college yugioh club of sorts. So yeah, Takahashi really changed my life for the better.
