Most of us get arthritis in our joints whether we have surgery or not!!!

For 2.5 years I have been limping after walking, it started off just up hill, and now I can’t walk longer than 15 minutes without limping. I can’t kneel down, or have a dance or play with my nieces.

I was told it was muscle imbalance by nhs for years and to ‘push through the pain’ including squats and walking on my limped leg, which I believe has made it worse, I was repeatedly not taken seriously. When I suggested I thought it was something else like a cartilage problem, they really made me feel like I was lying or being dramatic.

I finally got fed up and went for a private mri scan last week.

Turns out it’s s severe oblique meniscus medial tear and a 3.5mm cyst.

I’ve been told now I will most likely need surgery 😢 I’m only 29 and haven’t played sports, only running and walking. I’m a healthy weight, and have no idea how it happened!

I wish I had found out sooner and been given the correct physio, if you have any symptoms go private, don’t waste any time!

I have had a diagosed meniscus tear for a year, per MRI. It got better and I cancelled surgery, knowing that it might lead to problems in the longterm. Unfortunately, I reinjured it. I kept doing Pilates and Yoga (I am a 30-year Yogi) but now have a Baker's cyst in the back of my knee. I honestly think that it is time for surgery. I really really appreciated your very careful and honest review. Your patients are very lucky! From someone in CT USA

I'm 70 years old and just had torn medial meniscus repair surgery last week. I had knee pain for a year and couldn't walk my dogs every day or do yoga and strength training like I've always done. I've always been very active and I was getting seriously depressed being unable to exercise as usual. I researched pros and cons for several months and decided that at my age, I'd rather get it fixed so that I can be active for as long as possible. I start physical therapy next week and look forward to being pain free (for a change!) and able to exercise and walk my dogs again.

Great vid, very helpful advice. Put some brakes on the apparent drive towards surgery for these tears.

If only I had known it two years ago. I need not have undergone the surgery. Since the operation I have been having problems with my knee. Greetings❤

Very informative and helpful video. I am trying to decide whether to proceed with surgery for a medial tear and this helps put things in perspective. Thank you

Had a big sports injury 1975(high school), severe tear, torn portion meniscus removed. That was pretty much standard procedure then. Tear in other knee about 1980, same procedure. Have had subsequent surgeries since then in each, removing to "torn portion". Pretty much all gone now, in both knees. About 2015 got the arthritis in one, then in a few years arthritis in the other. Steroid shot about every 4 months cures the symptoms. Wish stem cell could regrow a new one in each.
No doubt the steroid will become less and less effective as time goes on, and will surely need full replacement in each someday. I am 68 now.

Love your channel. Unfortunately being in Thailand there’s next to no physiotherapists or sports medicine physicians/ physio’s.
I’ve complex tears in both my meniscus from a specific act 3 months ago.
2 orthopedic specialists can’t decide on whether my 25 year post surgery ACL graft is retorn or not. My preferred specialist was recommending a TKR but I don’t think this is what I want or need.
I do have the onset of osteoarthritis stage 2 & 3, but until the injury itself, I’ve had no knee pain or complaints.

My injury sustained through training & showing my son a goalkeeping technique. So not the typical injury from age for my age. I’m 61 years young, and whilst suffering my fair share of injuries and corrective surgeries, my knees have never suffered from non contact impact related injuries but from an acute contact event.

I’ve got surgery booked in for 2 days time as there’s no PT with real world experience here. I received 3 sessions of ultrasound from non qualified staff at the orthopedics clinic. They just know how to use the instrument but have absolutely no knowledge of physiology or anatomy. The Physio’s that do exist here have clinical knowledge from text books. Meaning, the book says this and that, so thats what they’ll do and won’t investigate further cause they can’t or don’t think for themselves.

I wish I could go elsewhere, even return home etc where sports medicine and sports physio’s are brilliant but that’s not a viable option.

I’m not bothered with pain but for me it’s about mobility and a normal range of movement & relative functionality the priority.

I’ll source your channel for tips, trips & steps post surgery as that’s the only thing that’s gonna help me now.
