  I personally don&apos;t think that Lahan is &quot;ugly&quot; in the books. The books are narrated by maomao who is known to be an unreliable narrator. Other characters see Lahan as someone who looks similar to maomao (like a male maomao). Maomao just describes him as unkempt or not good looking (when she was baffled that there are girls attracted to him). Kind of like when someone told you your brother is handsome and you would react and say &quot;eww you find that creature attractive?&quot;<br><br>Maomao is also unkind to herself when describing her looks but we all know that her looks aren&apos;t bad and that jinshi is down bad on her.

  I suggest Maomao&apos;s anomalous social mobility would be an interesting topic for a video. One day she&apos;s advising the emperor, the next she&apos;s selling cut-price medicine to a street walker. She&apos;s an anonymous laundry maid in the rear palace, and she&apos;s the princess of the La clan. In a very status-bound society, she is a status chameleon. She also, I think, does not see that street walker as less worthy of her empathy than the emperor. The difference is merely that one could have her executed on a whim, and the other couldn&apos;t.

  It&apos;s so interesting how everything about this family is toptier, from the intelligence to the weirdness, the lack of emotional intelligence is whats them so strong yet it&apos;s also their mortal weakness (and the imperial family is testimony of that rip). I cannot wait to reread once more the novels, your videos helps so much to refresh my memory of my love for this series &lt;3

  Honestly, Lakan became one of my favorites with the Fengxian episode. I was prepared for him to be a villain, but then that was so beautiful. I just love how proud he is of his wife and daughter.

  I think the only point the anime directly touches upon the the relationship between Loumen and Lakan is when Gaoshun sends Basen off to get Loumen to quell Lakans rage and the moment Loumen arrives, Lakan is basically back at being a kid again as he talks to him

  I would argue that Lahan&apos;s older brother IS a genius when it comes to farming. I think the reason it doesn&apos;t get pointed out as much in the fanbase is that 1) Farming is looked down upon as commonfolk labour/manual labour, so it isn&apos;t seen as anything impressive, and 2) Unlike other members of his clan, he isn&apos;t eccentric or &quot;weird&quot;. He&apos;s more lowkey and lacking in character &quot;quirks&quot; that make the other members of his clan and their genius stand out. He isn&apos;t an outlier at all in the La clan producing geniuses.

  I think their secret is that they aren&apos;t good at everything, but they&apos;re masters at one thing, and being obsessively great at something is the kind of thing the leaders really need. Having true interest in their talents also means they don&apos;t have much interest in ruling or taking power for themselves, and thus others don&apos;t see them as dangerous or risky to give extra responsibility for. They aren&apos;t leaders for the nation, and they&apos;re mostly happy in their roles, so they&apos;re usable.

  I actually like a lot Lakans half brother. Maomao also instantly liked him. I love how Lahan and his older brother have different dynamic with their bio dad. And i feel that people mistake Lahans older brothers and his fathers passions. Their father is the one obsessed with patatos. LOB is also quite smart and observant about farming. Thats his feild and as much as he denies it he learns things quickly and is definetly a farmer.
