Buy cheap the first time but buy the biggest set you can find. When things break or wear out, replace with the high end version.

You're left with the tools you use the most being the best, but if you need something for a job you rarely do, chances are you'll have it.

Best bit is you'll spend far less in the long run

Pretty solid list. Spoke key is a must as is Chain whip/cassette removal tool are a must. Can’t replace most rear spokes without pulling the cassette. Also you can remove your dork disk while you’re at it.

I agree, buy quality tools, you have them for life. They work better, built better and last sooo much longer.

The best Park Tool model was left out on the pitch - the Ji Sung Park Tool - tool had 3 lungs and made light work coming off the bench

I have sourced many of my workshop tools (including my trusty bike stand) from Lidl and Aldi. As a home mechanic I simply do not feel the need on spending a truck load of money on Park Tools, when I’m only gonna be using them once in a blue moon. I also look after my tools which means they last a long, long time.

Cable stretcher tool is a game changer if you have brakes or derailleur(s) using cables. Park's is the BT-2, but there are cheaper knockoffs available too.

Wera Hex set, best investment I made so far, oh and the CWP-7 crank puller, highly essential.

I have more tools than most bike shops, my favorites are my Bicycle Reseach nipple driver from 1980, Branson ultrasonic rig and DT Tensio 2.
I would add those to a wish list. 👍🏻
