  I am very surprised at the failure to mention that North Carolina is the state in the Union where gold was mined/panned for the coinage of the United States before the gold discovery at Sutter&apos;s Mill in California in 1849. Also, North Carolina is where you can also mine/pan for emeralds, rubies, silver, and platinum. These are all found in the western counties where some mines still exist.

  I remember being a child growing up in NC thinking the venus fly trap seemed so exotic that it must have come from some tropical rain forest or an island like Madagascar. Was so surprised to learn they&apos;re actually native to NC and found nowhere else in the whole world. I mean, how cool is that?

  I don&apos;t think I&apos;ve ever heard someone separate the Blue Ridge from the Mountain region. I&apos;ve always heard there&apos;s three regions, the Coast, the Piedmont, and the Mountains.

  if you aren&apos;t from North Carolina you probably underestimate how quickly weather changes here. it can snow inches one day and be 60-70 degrees the next. &nbsp;We have wild storms during certain seasons besides the hurricane season. If you.plan to visit the different regions a variety of clothing is needed due to the dramatic differences in regional temps and weather. We definitely have it all from the mountains to the beaches.

  we have an 867ft <i>mountain</i> (Occoneechee Mountain) in my town (Hillsborough) and we are about <i>2 hrs east of the foothills</i> ... I think that&apos;s pretty cool and remarkable. &nbsp;thankful to be a native North Carolinian - this has always felt like a place blessed by the grace of God 💗

  You don&apos;t have to be in the mountains to experience wild temperature fluctuations. Just this past week in Raleigh it was 75 degrees on Sunday &amp; below freezing by Tuesday night.

  Grew up in Southport/ Oak island and currently reside in the triangle now. I love my state. I wish people that migrate would quit trying to develop and commercialize our beach communities. Most locals that didn&apos;t inherit land are being pushed out from New England/New York transplants buying the &nbsp;homes we rent and kicking out long term tenants and turning them into extremely expensive weekly vacation rentals.

  North Carolina also has one of the worlds only temperate rainforests in it. You should look it up it&apos;s actually one of the coolest things I&apos;ve seen
