  It’s mind-blowing to think these mountains are older than dinosaurs and were once as tall as the Himalayas. Truly a majestic part of our planet!

  I grew up in Colorado, where people often use the expression &quot;old as the hills.&quot; And a visit to Mesa Verde verifies the feeling that people have been calling North America home for thousands of years. But the Appalachians surpass everything and everyone in their tenure on this wonderful garden planet. They were born long before us and will endure long after we are returned to dust.

  This is why I never plan on leaving... I&apos;ve moved to the coast... I&apos;ve seen flat land... I&apos;ve been to cities... Nothing compares to these mountains... The smell of laurel bushes... The embrace of the hills... Best place on earth

  I love Appalachia! It’s home! And whenever I leave for a while and then come back, as soon as I see those mountains, I get a rush. A high!
