SGC has done exactly what Tyler with SGC told me last summer with one exception: They have yet to come out and say that going forward, SGC will become a vintage-only grading company. That is something I was told was in discussion. I sent an email of that conversation to some of the bigger vintage channels (Graig, Sammy, and a few others), but no one gave it any play. I should have put it out myself, but I had the feeling that I caught Tyler on the right day - he was frustrated - and what should have been a 2 minute conversation about my item being replaced by SGC turned into a 15 to 20 minute conversation about what really was going on with SGC - what Collectors gameplan was. Well, those things Tyler talked to me about have played out. Very interesting, and I'm happy to see SGC is surviving.

Congrats on the anniversary. I can relate to the running and injury with a bit of burnout. In 2022 I decided I was going to train for a 5k for my first experience running at 47. That was in October and by March I ran a marathon. In 2023 I ran more than 1500 total miles and had to take a break. I tried to get back into it but would continually experience hip pain because I can’t seem to ease into it enough 😊.

Also wanted to mention I went to a small show today at Rickwood Field in Birmingham. I made a pretty big trade for me in which I picked up a unique piece. It was an auravision 33 record card from 1964 of Sandy Koufax that is autographed and certified by Beckett Authentication. A few other nice pickups but that was the gem of the day.

Not sure that a new brand manager equates to new life. Putting any of us in charge of PSA won’t fix the problems overnight. Have to wait and see. Thanks for sharing.

Maybe it's just so obvious nobody comes out and says it but I really wish all channels that discuss the grading companies and how many cards they're grading would make the point that since SGC is basically a vintage only brand that the amount of cards that they grade should be lower than ever. In fact, each passing month they should theoretically trickle down in the numbers they grade. There are only so many vintage cards, only so many vintage cards 'worth' grading (especially nowadays), and only so many people who actually send their cards in to grade. We aren't getting any new vintage cards so the supply we have is what we have. A good chunk of the vintage cards have been graded over the years either by SGC or PSA or on rare occasion other. That means with each passing month there are fewer and fewer that need graded at this point. Yes there will always be resubmits and cracking and crossing over other companies slabs, but on the whole it makes sense for SGC's numbers to be down, virtually always.

Hi Mike, this is certainly good news. I am a fan of SGC and their grading in the past was efficient. You could submit your cards here in Northern Virginia and have them back in less than four weeks. Hopefully they can get to doing this. No one wants to have their cards gone from their collections for months on end. That is why I would never send cards to PSA. They take way too long with their grading. It should not take six months for cards to be graded. Thanks so much for sharing this information. Take care and have a great weekend.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this news; at least there will be someone heading SGC that presumably cares about the brand. I have an order with SGC right now, because the grading price is relatively cheap. If SGC doubled their prices, I would NOT continue submitting to them and would submit to PSA instead. At $30 a card, the price is comparable to PSA prices and I would just go with PSA for the liquidity and better slab (SGC slabs are pretty fragile). At $30 a card, a lot of the cards I would want to grade with SGC wouldn't be worth grading. So I'd rather keep the price point where it is, even if it means longer turnaround times. That all said, I do hope they improve the SGC slab. Those slabs will crack if you just look at them funny. They've improved the PSA and BGS slabs, and I hope that they do the same for SGC.

PSA robbed the SGC graders. They will never come back to SGC. New hires ?? For Vintage cards ?? I am sure it will go well.

I have stopped grading since PSA has taken over the world. I really would like SGC to make a return and hopefully this change will spark it.

Anything that PSA Touches is a bias Fraud. PSA poisoning the Market. They have ruined the confidence of collectors with there horrible performance as graders. I will find another graders C3 grading plus Gem mint authentication are companies I will try out.

I'd start submitting again if things returned to the way they were a few years ago. 1 month turnaround - $15 per card.

Hello Mike… I’ve never submitted any cards to SGC, but would like to because I like how their slabs look with vintage and pre-1980 cards. I’ll be waiting to see what happens… Something of interest for you. In early February’26 I submitted a card to PSA for dual grading and I still do not have the card back. Thanks for doing your podcast. Best, Rich
