  I was a punk rocker in the 80s, and we had a saying: “punks are kind people pretending to be assholes, preppies are assholes pretending to be kind people.” This is, of course, a self-serving proverb, but it still resonated with my experience of the punk community where I grew up. They wore outrageous clothes, did wild things with their hair, blared loud music that shocked normal people, often went out of their way to offend society… but if any downtrodden person ever needed help, the punk kids were the first to show up and the last to leave.<br><br>That’s a big part of why I loved the punk rock theme of this movie. I can tell exactly which punks James Gunn hung out with. He sees me, and I see him.

  It disheartens me that people conflate &quot;cheesiness&quot; with genuine sincerity, and are - for whatever reason - embarrassed by it or made uncomfortable and thus compelled to denigrate it. How very sad for them. Superman is sincere in wanting to help and trying to make things better by being a good person. That should not be controversial or offensive.

  the actor for Pa Kent is REALLY good, like his lines aren&apos;t exactly revolutionary or different, they&apos;re rather quite cliché, but the actor DELIVERS, he makes it feel so genuine and heartfelt I just cant help but feel moved

  Not Alan making me tear up!<br><br>I’ve always worn my heart on my sleeve. It’s never worked in my favor. I spent years wishing I wouldn’t be so soft and open with people who never appreciated me for who I am.<br><br>This movie helped me to appreciate the kindness and softness I carry inside me. It helped me to understand that even if I get hurt over and over and over it’s nothing to be ashamed of and I’m brave for never stopping. Thank you for posting this you two. I appreciate this channel and both of you so much

  One thing I always love to tell people about this movie is that the actor who played the Jarhanpurian man (the first adult to join the chant for Superman that the kids started) later did an interview saying how happy he was to have a role in this movie- as small as it was- and that this was his first role in a movie where he WASN&apos;T a terrorist. And that is both great to hear, and at the same time absolutely heartbreaking that its taken this long for that man to find a role outside of that niche. <br>It just goes to show that James Gunn even outside of the movie&apos;s storyline wanted to allow everyone, even his actors, to play the characters he knows they could be!!

  To quote the legendary Peter Cullen I think this quote perfectly fits Superman &quot;Be strong enough to be gentle&quot; People are always so conflicted on whether Superman is a god or something mythical when he&apos;s human just like us. Sometimes the strongest guy in the room doesn&apos;t have to act like he is.

  As someone else said when this movie came out, this is the Superman that inspired the Iron Giant to save a small town.

  There’s something especially vulnerable about the fact that they share a hug at the end of that second conversation instead of a kiss. He needs connection and encouragement in that moment, and he’s just open about that. She’s right there with him, ready to put their differences aside. It’s a moment of intimacy between them that doesn’t have anything to do with sex. I absolutely love it.
