I've used Craftsman tools since I got my first set for Christmas when I was a teen back in the '60's. I've only had to replace one worn out 1/4" ratchet in all those 60 years of car work and restorations that I've done. That speaks volumes for their tools' durability.<br><br>Now if only car companies would just return today's cars to the durability they had 20+ years ago instead of building in planned obsolence. Today's cars are junk and often barely outlast their warranties.

My father worked for GTE in Northlake and we were the only family I know of that had 9 phones in the house and even one in the garage- in fact that phone I took the call that hired me for Hughes. GTE stock is how I bought my house I sit in today. That GTE plant was a thing to see and there were guys riding around it with golf carts. My father in-law also worked there and the two never knew each other. HP. As a Design Engineer my father bought a HP calculator that had Ion Implants. I think it was a 35 model. It replaced a Monroe mechanical calculator and a large thick Trig book to do the calculations. I ended up buying 15C, 41 and have a 33S now. HP made great calculators. I took a test in my 2 year Electronics college and finished first as I had the calculator program with the formulas to figure the problems out. I think it was a HP45 with LED display. Maytag- we had one of those old Mechanical motor contact washers that put white noise on TV's when it ran. My father kept that thing going for 50 years. They don't build stuff like this anymore. My first BSEE term paper was done on a C64 with it's daisey wheel printer- It made great pages that looked like a Selectric did the job. I still have it.

If Sony Walkman's lasted forever, I sure wish I knew that back in the 1980s, because I was constantly going broke having to buy new cassette players all the time, seeing as they were the major form of audio entertainment back then!
