  Ownership and control. That's the reason I collect CDs and DVDs.

  I collect CDs because they're a physical media that's objectively better that any other format that came before. I want to own my music and not rent it.

  A lot of people who got rid of their CDs, vinyl and videos and replaced them with streaming services are experiencing sever shock as the streaming services suddenly delete things that they've been listening to or watching.  In some cases, they've suddenly lost access to things that they supposedly had bought.  In the case of videos they might find that the their favorite video has been replaced by a different version that they don't like as much (directors' cuts, added or deleted material, modified versions, etc.).  If you want to always have access to what you want, you have to own the media.  You can't depend on a streaming service to always have what you want; you have no control over it.

  As a person whose whole business is selling CDs and physical media, it warms my heart to see videos like this. I’m a huge believer not just because of my business, but because of my own collecting of you’ve got to physically own it, digital rights isn’t the same.

  In the 90s, I lived on the Ohio State University campus. On their main street, they had at least half a dozen music stores, most of them locally owned. I miss the days when you could just hop through all the stores looking for new tunes !!!
