  The ability to <b>live</b> music as an unparalleled experience wether it came from TV speakers, your mum&apos;s car, a crappy stereo, a walkman or whatever is what made us young and happy

  The uncomfortable truth is I have thousands of dollars of CDs and vinyl, but listen to streaming 99% of the time for convenience.

  I had a decent vinyl collection when I was growing up. As a professional musician my records were a source of inspiration and were also educational. But I was poor as a kid. Subsequently, my record player was cheap and never sounded good. As soon as CDs came out I was just happy to have a smaller medium that was more convenient. Now as an adult I often have the opportunity to go back and listen to vinyl on ver expensive systems. And, honestly, digital sounds better to me. This is a discussion that could take hours. At the end of the day you just have to find what makes you happy. If it makes you feel warm and fuzzy then that’s what matters.

  Heard a CD decades ago and noticed zero unwanted noise. No hissing or pops. Never looked back.

  As a retired audio engineer and also a lifelong jazz musician, I welcomed CDs. In the 1980s, I was an early adopter of the CD format. Up to that point, I had spent a fortune on my turntables, cartridges, preamps, pop &amp; tick suppressors, etc. in an effort to minimize (impossible to eliminate) the inherent and obviously unwanted surface noise associated with vinyl records. I welcomed the cleaner and more detailed reproduction available on CDs. To my ears, CDs offered clearly superior audio fidelity and CDs did not degrade with repeated play.<br><br>This was the start of my rediscovery of truly listening to the music rather than my equipment. During my earlier vinyl LP days, I was afflicted with CGAS (chronic gear acquisition syndrome). After recovering nicely with the help of a &quot;12-Step Program,&quot; my shift to CDs allowed me to no longer spend astro-bucks on ultra-purist, high-end specialty audio equipment that sadly I changed nearly as often as my underwear. <br><br>Today, I cherish my CD collection and have gradually gravitated to fine quality consumer-grade electronics with superb but affordable B&amp;W speakers. I genuinely listen to and fully appreciate the music played in my home -- and without one thought about the equipment that produces it. I could not be more pleased... &nbsp;and I have never looked back with even a romantic twinkle in my eyes regarding my vinyl record collection.

  I don&apos;t get all complicated .., I like what I like .., a good LP record , my bourbon , and 30 to 40 minutes of peace !

  Switched to CDs over 40 years ago and haven&apos;t bought an LP since. &nbsp;No interest in going back to the Diskwasher, &nbsp;surface noise and Rice Crispies.

  I&apos;m an actual Boomer. I couldn&apos;t escape vinyl quickly enough. Back in the turntable/Metal-tape-plus-Dolby-C days, I was desperate to commit a new, pristine LP to tape on the FIRST PLAY. The goal was to have the best S-to-N ratio and zero pops. I was good at it, but it was always a pain in the butt. When a tape inevitably died and needed to be re-recorded, the sense of &quot;it&apos;s degraded&quot; couldn&apos;t be avoided. When CDs arrived, I leapt at the tech and never looked back. Did early CDs have worse EQ than vinyl? <i>Maaaybe?</i> I can imagine that maybe a few CDs got printed without having ideal mastering for the media. But those would be outliers and certainly not the norm. In any case, I spent good money on my CD player. The last CD player I bought was a Nakamichi 7-changer, and it was GLORIOUS. I still have hundreds of CDs tucked away in the closet. I&apos;ll keep them as protection against the new world order of subscribing to music instead of owning it.
