What a great report on trumpets which I have been around al my life. You did forget to mention Blessing, because in the early days of Bach, Vincent got his valve casings from Blessing. I have had number of old Blessing in my collection and they great trumpets.

I’ve been a Getzen “cheerleader” for almost 20 years! My 900 Eterna Classic handily outplays my model 37 Strad and my Olds Super and my Olds Ambassador. It has WOW’d me since 2009.

Started on a Conn cornet borrowed from the school district in fourth grade. Entering high school my dad bought me a nickel plated Olds. It turned out to be a difficult instrument to play. Played intermittently after high school and eventually traded a Roland piano for a Bach Strat. trumpet. As long as I keep it clean and use only Zaja valve oil, it works great. Great instrument with little resistance.

I just looked at a near immaculate 1962 Conn Constellation trumpet (just like the horn used by Maynard Ferguson in the early 1960's on his many Roulette Records recordings) and it's asked at $1,400 or so. These are under valued but competently made instruments. I have a Conn Constellation trombone from a similar time frame and it's great.

How do you feel about a Conn 52BSP TRUMPET FOR $1300
@johntrezise6756 · 4 weeks ago
In the early 1960s the Olds Recording trumpet was the go to orchestral trumpet in my city even though this was not the top of the range Olds trumpet then on the market. My teacher had an Olds Mendez which more expensive which trigger action an the first and third slides (the Recording only had it on third). I later bought a Recording model and have played for the last 50 years. Beautiful instrument. I wonder why trigger action on slides did not become universal. So much better and less awkward to use.

I didn't know about Carol Brass. The other brands I had, but got trained to go with Bach or Yamaha. The one thing annoying about Bach is, that 3rd valve slide that keeps popping out. Why can't they fix this? the old ones don't do this.

If a kid were to pick up one of these in high school, in SOOO many cases they are going to run into "Bach snobbery" when they get to college. I came into college with a Benge 3X. A pro horn. For four d@mn years all I heard from my fellow section mates and prof was "When are you going to get a Bach? When are you going to get a Bach?" Finally got a 27 large bore. Had it for 10 years. Put a Blackburn leadpipe on it to try to make it better. Tried a .462 large bore Stomvi Elite as they hit the US market back in the later 80s. Got rid of the Bach. Not interested in ever getting another Bach. Ever. So many other horns outplay them these days. But those ingrained "Bach is the only way to go" attitudes you'll run into that is rampant in most educational settings is an issue. RE: Carol Brass -- Have now owned and tried several models over the past 4 or so years. The CTR-7770L-YLX-Bb custom model available through Carol Brass of Texas is now my daily driver. $1800 brand new. Took the place of my Yamaha YTR-6335RC, the horn played by Louis Dowdeswell and Andrea Tofanelli over in Europe. As popular over there as the Bobby Shew Yamahas are here in the States. That had been my primary horn for about 18 months. That's how good the Carol Brass horns are.

I own myself a vintage King 2006 AT. It sound better than average pro Bach or Yamaha.
