Cutting off those tabs is exactly what would have been done back in the day and is period correct.

One caution about the GX110: If the coin cell battery is dead, not only can this cause the system to fail to POST, it can cause the system to not even power on!
So if you ever think your GX110 power supply is dead, check the CR2032 first.

Working as a PC repairer in 2010 I threw away so so many Shuttles. It was unthinkable at the time they would be worth more in 2026 than they cost new. Even back then they ended up Frankenstein builds courtesy of another “repairer” in the area.

Former Shuttle owner here. Often we would dremel off the bottom half of the 3.5" drive cage to fit larger coolers like the Swiftec MCX4000.

Also quite common to do a mesh mod on the GPU side of the case to improve airflow.

I subscribed because of the Shuttle.

I swore by them in the 2000s. I owned 4 different models. My brother was much younger than me, so I built him one he could hide in his dresser. We had a psycho mom. He was able to pull it out when she wasn't around to play dialup UT99 with me, as they lived 80 miles away from where I was. It's been 12 years since he died, and every time I see a Shuttle PC I am reminded of the absolute best time of my life, gaming with him covertly, when life was so much simpler and better.

4th gen Core seems to be about the comfortable limit for XP. I've got it running on a Dell Precision T1700 with a quad core Xeon, 32GB RAM, a GTX 970, and a X-Fi Titanium sound card, although onboard also works. Everything is fully working. The 970 just needs the PCI vendor and device ID added to the NVIDIA driver INF and it works perfectly. It's also triple booted with Windows 11 and Rocky Linux.

If it helps, there used to be "fan cards" that slotted into a PCI slot and either blew out or sucked in air through the slot cover

Hey, Shuttle enthusiast here, I have a spare cooler, if you want it! I don't have the fan, just the actual cooler itself

0:20 thought that was a toilet at first glance. "Dedicated office space"

I enjoy the casual spell casting at 6:34 in the video.

I've got a few new-old-stock ICE coolers for that shuttle if you want one.
