The cool thing about standards in the 80's and 90's is that there was so many to choose from.

    To be fair:
1. The PS/2 line was for business users, most of whom had service contracts, so to make service quicker and easier, the chassis was designed to be completely toolless -- the first computer to do so, AFAIK.
2. Having an easily replaceable battery kept safely out of harm's way is a godsend compared to having a leak-prone battery soldered directly to the motherboard.
3. 3½" floppy drives were still new and there was no settled industry standard for them yet. Other OEMs used what looked like a normal ribbon cable but supplied power through it. IDE hard drives didn't exist yet, either.
4. The MCA bus being 32-bit, plug-and-play, and auto-configuring was years ahead of its time, and sure beat configuring jumpers and DIP switches and manually resolving IRQ conflicts. But if you didn't like it, all PS/2 models below 50 still used the ISA bus.

11:37 For those curious, the 2M x 36 on the label is referring to the size of the individual SRAM cells in megabits, so its 2 Mbit cells x 36 = 72 Mbit or 9MB total, 8MB of actual capacity plus 1MB for parity

The 80s and 90s were so weird. Even cheap and relatively bad generic clones were always so much easier to repair and upgrade than IBMs. It was a relief when it became normal to just call compatibles "PCs" without referring to IBM anymore.
