  It amazes me that the planning board didn't care about how the building looked when it was a falling down, derelict, eyesore, but let someone spend money on it and all of the sudden they care about how it will look and want their ideas enforced.

  Those planners are nuts!  It sounds like George's original plan would have had a better chance of being approved by the committee.  Why are there still so many restrictions when it isn't a listed building?

  "you're in the country-side, not the city" such narrow-minded, objectionist for the sake of it, council planners. NO actual reason given for rejecting (unless we weren't shown that bit). The would have been ok wiht a 17th Century building falling down but want their power-play on a beautiful, sympathetic restoration. Madness.

  First, the building couldn't get listed. Then it got redesignated from a home to agricultural building and marked for demolition. And after they put their heart and soul into saving the building the council's planning committee is worried about aesthetics? what gives!

  I think his first choice of another thatched extension was a great Idea, & they should put it back into the planners. Give him his planning, it's a beautiful house.

  That first planner was way out of line when he rejected the original extension of a two storied, thatched roof addition. That addition would have worked in beautifully with the original house and to demand that they not thatch it and make it modern was never going to work. If anything needed to change then do away with the glass hallway connection and instead use something more in keeping with the house. I wonder if they would have been given the go-ahead had they stayed with the original idea?

  These are so lucky to get an interview and suggestions most councils I’ve dealt with don’t want to know and are most unhelpful, that is unless your a big developer with your own legal department then they tend to click the heals. Unfair I hear some say well try it and you’ll find out. Having seen the finished house, the fact it wasn’t listed and what he’s done for the area it makes me sick to hear that the planners turned down his planning. For me it show that they’re a bunch of idiots.

  I have to say I was also furious at the town council. Rejecting an extension, capriciously on a whim, without any objective standards or rules, and without taking any risk on the project.<br>This is why we have rule of law, that rules need to be written down so they can be consulted and litigated, so we&apos;re not at the whims of randos in a town council.<br>I can tell you that if they had that meeting in the afternoon, in a sunny day, after some birthday celebration with cake, most of those members would be in favor of the extension.<br>Meanwhile, it is 2025 and satellite imagery shows that the extension was never built.
