I painted signs in between trains. Never bored. They ran best kept stations.

Around 2009/10, I had a school run problem ( My wife doesn’t drive and the two children went to different schools miles apart ( don’t ask😢) … Next to where I worked was Ravensthorpe Station in West Yorkshire.. Officially the least used station in the area.
Two stops along was Brighouse and a very kind Mother of another pupil volunteered to collect my daughter from there ( Thank You Sue)… - It worked out fine… The driver used to have a chat through a sliding window and said He would look out to make sure she got off at the right stop… Yes amazing but it did happen ❤

Wonderful video - takes me back to Brighton (75A) in the 50s and early 60s, when I'd see 4 or 5 light pacifics shedded there and used on the cross country expresses to Cardiff, Plymouth and Bournemouth. 34055, Fighter Pilot, an unrebuilt BB loco was my favourite - I many times saw it thundering through Portslade and West Hove station hauling maybe 8 coaches. They were generally termed "air smoothed" rather than streamlined, though, as were the A4s, some P2s, and B17/5s. M7s I also saw on the Brighton - Horsham line, before being replaced by Ivatt 2-6-2Ts.Thanks for the memories. May you thrive.

Southern England kept more rural lines than many areas. In Yorkshire, we have a city (Ripon) and many sizeable towns (which are now growing rapidly) like Boroughbridge, Pocklington, Otley and Richmond without any nearby rail links. So short sighted to sell off the land where the tracks were, making it impossible to put back.

What a lovely and charming film! And doubly so because an actual human narrates it.

I have visited all three railways featured in this lovely video.
The M7 has always been my favourite tank locomotive since I first set eyes on one in the early 1950’s.
Living in Bournemouth and travelling to Ringwood was always an M7 job. Same on the Swanage branch. Ivatt 2-6-2’s also featured on both lines as well, both types were fitted for push-pull operation.
I have three M7 models and a push-pull set from Hornby on my model railway, amongst a vast variety of BR Southern Region EMU’s and steam locomotives. I have a “what if” layout, and can run trains typical of the 1950’s until the end of steam in 1967.
I am tempted to take that up to modern times with models available right up to nearly the present day.
In 2014 I paid visits to all three railways, and your video perfectly encapsulates times gone by in southern England.
Now semi-retired and living in PICTON, Marlborough Sounds, South Island, New Zealand.
