All that Jack states here is correct. But he underestimates the number of road in the English countryside, in all the periods of history. Modern research has shown that England did not rely on just a small number of tracks along the ridgeways - there were tracks on the lowands, too, and most people never needed to travel further than the next village or town. The notion of long-distance cross-country routes is a 19th century idea.

Look at what we're losing. Look at what our masters are taking from us with their fixation on multiculturalism.

When I was a teenager, I knew some old-timers who had lived 'on the road in wagons. They were built like shepherd's wagons but with painted canvas covers. The sheep wagons of the mid-west U S went to aluminum covers later, but we're basically all alike inside. I spent all my days driving horses & mules teams & single & was always going to build a 'gypsy' wagon. There were several other people we came across traveling by horse, Pony or donkey driven wagons, back in the early '80s. This was in California. I still have harness, carts etc. but now trail riding. Anyway I have drawn up some unique covered wagon plans for a covered box that will fit on a wagon chassis, or truck & will be light. Love seeing you doing what I've always dreamed of & especially seeing the 'travellers' & ponies along the way!

We've lost so much, even since Jack's day. Very sad.

Jack was part of my childhood. Even as a teenager (or whatever) I always watched Out of Town, How? and the rest of his appearances. I didn't have a telly when he moved from the Southern TV so I am very pleased to see these later series. I used to live in Hampshire and many of the locations are still familiar.
