5 habits I'm taking from this video:<br><br>1. Prioritize Zone 2 training to build mitochondria (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5ugHAXEnYI&t=4158">1:09:18</a>).<br>2. Use the 'talk test' to find my ideal workout intensity (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5ugHAXEnYI&t=4749">1:19:09</a>).<br>3. Move consistently throughout the day, like those in Blue Zones (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5ugHAXEnYI&t=8307">2:18:27</a>).<br>4. Don't rely on BMI; focus on waist-to-height ratio for better health insights (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5ugHAXEnYI&t=8222">2:17:02</a>).<br>5. Avoid 'compensatory eating' after workouts by being mindful of my post-exercise hunger (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5ugHAXEnYI&t=7768">2:09:28</a>).<br><br>If I had to sum everything up in one sentence:<br>Metabolic health isn't just about weight; it's about training your mitochondria through consistent movement and understanding your body's unique fuel partitioning.

Great information and review... Thanks...

It would be useful to include graphs of the things these experts are talking about. They are trying to use their hands to show the steps of metabolism in muscles, cells, and mitochondria and relationships, the relative rates of things at different exercise levels, and such. But it is not really working. In a class, they would have a chalkboard, or hand out papers with diagrams, or ask students to turn to page 477, or whatever. But in a video, we need graphs and diagrams on the screen. Not necessarily covering them, maybe half or a third of the screen.

Hi Simon, first of all I want to give a huge thank you for the way you approach the science around nutrition. I've been Paleo, vegan, WFPB, and everything in between and have studied nutrition for over 25 years and you are the most integrity-filled, unbiased champion of health I've come across (found you via Rich Roll's podcast). I just finished your book—which was fantastic!—and I was curious if you could do a video of the UPDATES you'd make to your book in 2026 if you could do a revision. I listened to your challenge video of Dr Lyon's protein message from a year ago and you mentioned how your take on leucine has changed since 2020 and it got me thinking that you might feel differently about some of the other more subtle messages in your book since then as well (understanding, of course, that the general thrust of the science you covered in your book, including the nutrients of focus and your pyramids, is still very much valid and health promoting today). I am most curious about protein quantity/longevity on a plant based diet and, personally, your evolving ideas about including fish in a plant predominant diet. Again, thank you for your tireless campaign to spread truth and integrity on this subject, I'm trying to get more of my community to tune in to your work.

Thank you. Regarding lactate:<br>Does fasting not-exercising lactate correlate with fasting insulin?<br>Does fasting not-exercising lactate correlate with fasting blood glucose (BG)?<br>Does fasting not-exercising lactate increase earlier than fasting insulin and/or BG?<br>Thanks again

Thank you. This all seems rational. Science knowledge improves as the ability to measure more detail improves. Regarding metabolic disease as a spectrum at about minutes 28 - 30:<br><br>Hyperglycemia seems to be a continuum with the healthy HbA1c range about 4.7 to 5.0. Damage/pathologies seem to slowly start developing in the low 5 range, initially stressing the pancreas to make more insulin (beta cell depletion?). The arbitrary/statistical numbers for defining prediabetes and diabetes seem more for bureaucratic decision-making than for disease prevention (Blood glucose 126 is where researchers observed retinopathy?). Many people develop complications without ever ‘officially’ having diabetes.<br><br>Would it be more helpful to start nutritional/other intervention earlier BEFORE named pathologies develop? Or even earlier, treat hyperinsulinemia?

Oh come on - you don't need 3 co-hort studies around the world! People who are Pre-fat" or whatever euthemism you want to use wil continue to get fat , unless they stop eating so much It's not complicated. Same with knowing if someone is fat. No, BMI isn't always accurate, however in combination with looking at them, you can know. You can tell Tyson was not fat by looking at him. You can tell when thin appearing people are "too fat' by looking at them , they have abdominal fat, etc. Common sense. Seess that everyone wants to justify being fat b/c the world is getting fatter. The one thing that has changed dramatically in the past 20 years is the electroagnetic enviroment we live in. I think that has put us over the edge, on top of a skewed energy balance . Way to much intake, not enough output.

Dammit, a calorie is a calorie is a calorie! From Wikipedia: The calorie is a unit of energy that originated from the caloric theory of heat.[1][2] The small calorie or gram calorie is defined as the amount of heat needed to raise the temperature of one milliliter of water by one degree Celsius (or one kelvin).[3][4][5] In the US, the term "calorie" when used in nutrition refers to a kilocalorie (1 kcal = 1000 cal. Sure the kilocalories consumed may be processed differently by the various organs but the input is still kilocalories.
