I was listening to a podcast (non game dev related I think, sorry I can't remember which one) in the past week or so where they were talking about how there is usually more than one way to be successful even at the very top. E.g. Stephen King writes his books without pre planning them out finding the story as he goes, whilst JK Rowling meticulously plotted Harry Potter out in tables/spreadsheets. One of the top tennis players keeps to an ultra healthy diet especially when competing whilst another revels in treats during a tournament.

There isn't necessarily a one true way of game development (or anything else) different people who are further up the path they have walked can guide us newer folks on by telling us how they have found the path, but as you said it will depend a lot upon the kind of games and individual would be good at making and their current skill level on that journey and we have to figure out which route we're going to take ourselves when the conditions may have changed since you passed this way or we may have access to different skills or resources.

I've finished about 20 pixel art games but never released any of them. Been doing this for about 15 years. Gamemaker.

The thing about the incremental genre is that it has so much potential imho: it has a very active community, and the genre itself is more 'open' to iteration, allowing for many different styles of gameplay. If you play 10 different incremental games, there’s a good chance they’ll all feel unique. Meanwhile if you play 10 Vampire Survivors clones or 10 'X Activity Simulator' games, they often feel quite similar. That's why I at least believe the incremental genre could remain hot for a little longer. Good vid!

Great video, best advice is the one that works for you and there is a filtering process to know which advice to follow.
