I served with several Recon Marines onboard the USS Dubuque in 1989 in the Persian Gulf, who played bit parts in this movie. They said Clint bought watches for all the real Marine extras who played bit parts in this movie. It was not a ton of money, but they all appreciated the gesture and had a ton of respect for him.

There's an old saying in the military, ''If the military wanted you to have a wife, you would've been issued one at basic.'' Truth is if you're in the military and you have a family, your family is in the military. And military families should be treated better than politicians' families.

I know a guy who was a veteran of the Grenada action, he was also a veteran of Vietnam, Korea and WW2. He's 101 years old and still going strong.

Gunny is a nickname for Gunnery Sergeant, E7, in the Marine Corps. Gunner is a nickname for a Chief Warrant Officer who's job it was at one time to teach weaponry in the Marine Corps. Highway was a gunny

My Dad served in the Marines (Korea ‘53). Clint’s character is spot on. Hard core. BTW-he’d have Never tolerated men like the ones first portrayed at the beginning of this movie. The beginning of Full Metal Jacket is much More accurate! RIP Dad.Semper Fi 🇺🇸

Clint Eastwood truly respects the behind the scenes crew that's why he put all of them before the actors in the film in the end credits. Hes such a legend there will never be another quite like him.
