Why CGC 9.9 Comic Sales Have Gone Bonkers | The Ultra-High-End Grading Boom Explained

I’m a raw collector and 9.9 10.0 mania is an example why. There’s no discernible difference between the 9.8 comic book and the 9.9 comic book.
People aren’t collecting comic books. They’re collecting cases with the highest number.
I’m more excited by being able to flip a book open and see some white pages with Jack Kirby art from the 1960s, then having a book I can’t open with a high number on the case.

I only have 1 book in the show and that is the Venom: LP #1. It's not a 9.8, but that's fine with me because it's the copy that I bought myself when I was still a teenager. That foil caught me then and it still really does today! 😊 I was able to get it signed by de la Rosa at the Grand Rapids, MI. Comicon a few years back tho which makes it even more special to me. BTW: your show is awesome and the content is superb

Please don’t forget that PSA is a somewhat legitimate competitor now, and PSA is giving out 10s like hotcakes on a Sunday afternoon. So, CGC all of a sudden decides that they start giving out 9.9 and 10 grades to more books now too, after decades where they wouldn’t give out anything better than a 9.8 anything with modern books.

My opinion. I am a person who strives for perfection. I maliciously clean my house every weekend, vacuum the blinds, dry mop under the beds, and wash the floors. When I wash my car if I don't do a proper wax and orbital buff it I still do a spray on wipe off wax. What I'm getting at is I'm a super neat freak and try to always achieve the best possible outcome. Now if I was collecting comics AND I had an infinite disposable income I would go for 9.9 and the unobtainium 10. I prefer omnibus collecting 1990 and earlier. I get the books in oversized hardcover format and in 9.9 or 10.

good video. your point about taking all the 9.8’s and the one 9.9 of giant sized x-men and submitting them all at once is a good way to illustrate the silliness of 9.9’s.

i also want to go on about your point regarding the differences between 9.6, 9.8, 9.9, and 10.0. i think these so-called differences between 9.8, 9.9, and 10 are ridiculous. think about how insanely subjective the difference between a 9.9 and a 10 is, for example. it’s make-believe.

I’m scared to look up what my 9.9 Civil War Michael Turner Aspen Variant has gone for now. I sold back in the day to make rent. :/ I looked through there whole pile to find 2 good ones for me and my friend. This was a unique thing back then because Marvel let his company do this version. A lot of the copies in the pile I looked at were not in great shape.

Will you be doing this for the nov 20-22 heritage auction with the 9.0 Superman 1? Really enjoys the auction deep dives.

All these perfect grades are just silliness. Definitely to boost values. I’d wager some of these companies have some way of profiting off boosted FMV prices of some of these books. All to increase people submitting stuff.
