  Another interesting fact about Green Acres that made us locals proud was the barn roof that says “Green Acres” in the opening credits. That barn was not “down south” but right over the Hudson River in NewJersey . Presumably it was the same plane (possibly on the same day) that took the overview footage of NYC that also appears in the opening credits. We watched as the letters faded and the farmland was slowly sold and our dairy farms turned into crowded  subdivisions. As the boomers graduated and moved on to college and jobs three new superhighways gobbled up the land - somewhere in that growth frenzy the Green Acres barn disappeared. Time marches on.

  As a latchkey kid both of whose parents worked full time, I loved watching old reruns of this show and many others every weekday during the summer.  Green Acres was one of my favorites.

  One of my favorite shows as a kid. Back in the 80s, wtbs use to play classic sitcoms in the morning, in the summer I watched all morning

  In the 1960s, my dad was involved in the development of a "miniature" pig breed for medical research. It topped out at ~154 lb and dad's team offered them to the Green Acres production company. This would have allowed them to use the pigs longer without having to replace them so often. If I recall, it didn't work out because the Hanford Miniature breed is nearly hairless, bred so to be as similar as possible as humans, for their medical research purposes. Therefore they didn't look quite right as an Arnold replacement…
