FBI should take over this. This doesn't just happen in CA, but in other states as well. Some people are scamming Federal funding that should benefit our citizens. This is a very serious issue.

Here is a simple lesson for these colleges and the rest of us to understand ... "Government" + "Free" + "Online" will always lead to widespread corruption

You think that is bad? The administrative size is insane for community colleges. Some of these have like 7+ VP. 60-75% are lecturers and very little new tenure track faculty. Lots of new and renovated buildings for administration but no new rooma for full time staff.

I am a former adjunct professor over a period of 25 years. The only reason that the community colleges went to online classes is that they could force teachers to enroll up to 50 students online versus 22-30 onsite. It was "free money" to the colleges. They are now griping that a large fraction of those signing up are fraudulent ... and they therefore "lose" the money they counted on to hire all those new administrators.

They don't discuss or care why there are so many grifting the system.

I was an adjunct professor of computer science at three universities. The corruption of our schools is unbelievable, from the top to individual departments

In person verification needs to take place before enrolling is completed.

I taught at a CC in CA for 30+ years. I saw some exceptional teachers, and I had some great students, but the scam level, from student up through staff all the way to to Sacramento, is unbelievable.

The problem with online classes is that there’s really no way to verify if the actual student is the one taking the class, or if someone else is doing it for them. Many take advantage of this to exploit Pell Grants and FAFSA. On top of that, some welfare programs require people to be enrolled in classes or actively searching for a job, which makes it even easier for the system to be abused.

These community colleges were offering enrollment bonuses of $500- $1000 just to enroll and apply for FAFSA. They helped create this problem with their incentives.

Maybe it is a good time to remove fake administrators who do not represent the student body nor the parents of the student body who are paying the bill

Fraudulent enrollment can only happen if there isn’t a registrar that collects HS transcripts, financial forms, and a cost. It goes to show free stuff results in no accountability in CA.
