  As a 21 year CA teacher it has been a non stop epic decline in both lack of consequences and allowing disruptive behavior to dominate instructional time.  We need change that is valid and keeps our students accountable.  This also applies to the district office personelle that rarely visit classrooms (and not just for 10 minutes to check a box) and need to see what is ACTUALLY going on in the classroom.  Only recently has my school had a new administrator who actually cares and is making the changes that are needed.  After the malaise of the last 7 years, he is righting the ship and doing what he can, barring restrictions imposed by the idiots at the capital, to make our campus legit.

  The California originated no discipline or consequences for bad, disruptive behavior in the classroom is the biggest impediment to learning. Restorative justice programs and the like have made teaching a nightmare due to teachers spending most of their time dealing with behaviors that shut down teaching and learning.

  The policy was to dumb down our students, in order not to have any student feel dumb.  Every student gets a passing grade. The are all equally stupid.

  I had to take my son out of a regular school setting because he wasn't learning anything. He's now home schooled and have been doing sooooooo much better!!!

  The truth is that there are a plethora of reasons why our schools are failing: lack of discipline/accountability (society wide problem); screen/tech addictions; teacher tenure; poor teacher training; focusing on societal issues instead of the 3 R’s; drug babies; etc. It will take a committed society to make meaningful changes. Let’s make that happen.

  I wonder why it's lower? 🤔 I'll tell you WHY my daughter took her 10 yr old out of Sugar Hill elementary in Moreno Valley! That school cares more about looking good to the district than taking care of a bullying problem!! My grand daughter was chased by 20 girls & they weren't playing! One actually grabbed my grand daughter & held her arms back, calling to the other girls, Hey I got her! My grand daughter was able to break free, thank God! All the adults on the playground did nothing when my grand daughter cried for help! I've been homeschooling her since last Oct 2025 & not thru the district! It's the Affidavit choice in CA. There are 3 ways to homeschool. We are moving to AZ where my sister has lived over 30 yrs.

  I'll be honest. I don't want my kid in a school where there are massive discipline issues or where half the students can barely speak or read English. I want my children to learn not to be there to subsidize test scores for a failing school system.

  It also falls on parents, they need to sit down with their children every week and do reviews, read or have them read a few minutes a day, quiz them keep challenging them at home. Reinforce what teachers are teaching.

  As a sub in the Central Valley of Ca I can confirm there’s no discipline and there’s no expectation for students to behave like they’re in a professional environment. Also, they dress like they’re going to sleep or the club. No in between. I’m 32 so not an old lady mad about young kids expressing themselves. But the way they dress is often innappropriate.
