As someone who has invested in mining and energy for years, I'll just raise the point that economic claims can be very different from economic reality. Good luck to them.

Instead of using steam from salt water directly to power the generator, the heat is transferred to another fluid with a lower boiling point, which then drives the turbine. This process is known as the Organic Rankine Cycle turbine.

I'm an analytical chemist and love this type of content. I had an idea very similar to this a few years ago, I should have pursued it back then. I guess. Maybe I should act on some of the other ideas I've had now LOL. Keep up the good content

This is a nit, but at 8:35 you say that 3800 plants would produce 190 MW. That's not very much. The good news is, your math is off by a factor of 1000. The correct number is (3800x50 MW) = 190000 MW, or 190 GW. That's roughly the equivalent of 190 nuclear power plants.

Remember people "they claim"
Claim isn't reality and this sounds like 🤭

The optimism here is refreshing, combining clean water and power generation into one system feels like solving two global challenges with a single lens. A reminder that the most impactful engineering often lies in elegant integration.

The salt that the plant produces can be subsequently melted down and used for energy storage during nighttime hours and/or bad weather, since molten salt does a much better job of holding heat than most other thermal storage solutions.

There's an assumption in this video that sea salt is entirely sodium salt... it isn't. With that volume of salt extraction there's also going to be a meaningful quantity of lithium salts in the mix. Whether or not it's practical to separate is a different question, but pulling it out of solution has got to be useful first step in making that possible.

I love spaces like this.....not only do you learn about the amazing people and ideas that will actually help humanity.......but you get an amazing think tank in the comments for potential issues......solutions for them......I miss intelligent group think tanking.....

Seriously hope it can turn into something tangible and breaks the curse of Australia's lack of ability capitalize and commercialize good ideas.

I created a design like this in the 90's. A simple process I called long tail recycling (the coil inside the source tube is the long tail). It included other features which prevented or at least dramatically reduced the scaling (sodium) problem, however my initial design was to reuse household grey water so there was not enough energy to generate electricity. I inquired with the local state government for some seed funding. They poo poo'd the idea.

I kept telling myself for the next thirty years one day I'll create a demo version. But you know life happens.
