Ah hello again.. thanks so much everyone for the feedback on the last videos. Love hearing all your takes on the stories! What should we do next?

I also really do love taking a break now and then from the historical side of things and looking at more modern bands... who better than The Cranberries! But hey honestly.. my parents were right, I spent too much time in that ditch and not enough time listening to proper music... woops...

Anyway, thanks again everyone. Love chatting with you all here. Have a great week!

Cheers,
Ronan 🍻

Zombie is one of those rare songs that even if you aren't Irish, you can feel the anger, the desperation within it all, and every damn time I hear it, it makes me bawl like a wounded child, it just makes you feel so powerless because you do see all the violence, all the wars and conflicts in the world that are caused by "zombies" and all you can do is hope it stops.

Thats exactly what I felt hearing her words.
“What’s in your head” to me was like she was shouting “what the f$@k were you thinking!”
“What the hell have you accomplished here?!”

Her shouting "ZOMBIE" always felt like an accusation. Like she was disgusted, staring down at an already dead creature still shambling on just to hurt and kill others, a mockery of life with no higher goal than to drag others down to their level, to turn living kids into yet more disgusting zombies. The same old thing since 1916.

"Anguished" is the word that I use to describe Zombie. It' s how I sing it. When I did that once in a tourist-trap karaoke bar in Vancouver, I was congratulated by every Irish person in the bar. Turns out that there were more Irish people in that bar than I thought there were people. I still haven't figured out where they were all sitting.

“Children are dying." Lull nodded. "That's a succinct summary of humankind, I'd say. Who needs tomes and volumes of history? Children are dying. The injustices of the world hide in those three words.”

Man, I've played Zombie at so many gigs over the years and always assumed it was just about the Troubles and the senseless violence of it all. Really appreciate this deep dive...it’s going to totally change how I think about it next time I’m on stage, especially with my own kids in mind now. Great video, and nice hat!

I always took "but you see, it's not me, it's not my family" as a reflection of how people will ignore the issue unless it directly affects them.

When I visited Czechia I heard Zombie being played live on the streets of Prague, and as a Canadian I recognized it. There is something that sticks with me in art more than any other emotion, the sadness and longing behind it. I never studied Irish history, but you understand a lot just by listening to how she sings even before you know what it's about. It forces you to stop and listen, it is appropriately powerful.

Tim Parry, my Mum & Dad were friends with his Mum and Dad. I'm sorry but a bombing in a shopping area like Warrington on the Saturday before Mothers Day just makes it feel like Children were the target. His Dad Colin wrote a heartbreaking book called Tim: an Ordinary Boy
