Love the added mention of Keith's articles, super important on these videos. One deep dive I'd add mention is the Cold Sun Federation, lizardfolk who serve the Flame and contain the Cold Sun in Q'Barra! Added trivia aside, you're doing incredible research and sharing Eberron with the wider audience, keep up the awesome work! ❣

Such a refreshing way to talk about the CotSF! It's so easy to describe it in stereotypical ways, but its background is truly fascinating, with so much cool history!

It's this kinda nuance and complexity that makes Eberron my favorite setting! Also - nice shout-out at the end. I think I know what inspired it 😉

These are great videos man! The tone is great for lore videos. I didn't know anything about Eberron until them. I only wish there were more. Keep up the great work!

A little in my Eberron thing, I also throw the Znir Pact as another distribution of the silver flame out there-created around the same time as the Ghaash’kala-allowing the gnolls to free themselves from overlord control.

This is actually the central point of conflict for an Eberron campaign I’m writing.

The campaign is centered around Thrane, and the PCs actions can tilt the scale of the nation, continent, and world.

Because, in 998 YK, Thrane is the pre-WW1 Balkans of Khorvaire.

Thrane is politically unstable for many of the reasons mentioned in the video. Additionally, because Thrane had a hard time making alliances for much of the Last War, it had to finance its armies by taking out loans from the Dragonmarked Houses, especially House Kundarak. This means that Thrane’s population is overtaxed and is recovering more slowly than the other nations as a result.

Thaliost, once the capital of Aundair, was captured by Thrane in the final stretch of the Last War. Thrane even managed to retain control of it in the Treaty of Thronehold.

However, most of Thaliost resents the Thranish occupation.

In order to help ameliorate this, the High Cardinals appointed an Aundairian member of the Church of the Silver Flame to govern Thaliost.

However, the person they appointed is a fervent member of the Pure Flame sect, and brutally represses even the slightest hint of rebellion. He uses tactics like burning people at the stake. Fun guy.

Protests, riots, and other forms of civil unrest happen daily in Thaliost. Both Thrane AND Aundair have armies camped within marching distance of the city to this day.

Many believe that, if the Last War reignites, Thaliost will be the spark.

Without going into too much detail, the campaign will hinge primarily on how successful the party is at convincing the current Keeper of the Flame, 11-year old Jaela Daran, to take direct control of the church and Thrane instead of being the spiritual leader she has so far contented herself with being.

Good ending: Jaela condemns the Pure Flame, returns Thaliost to Aundair, and begins implementing a number of reforms which reduce and/or eliminate the corruption plaguing the Church.

Highlights of this outcome: High Cardinal Krozen gets a chance at redemption by being offered an assignment to lead a “Special Council” focused on investigating and preventing a second Mourning. He manages to stop another Mourning by sacrificing his own life in the process.

Denouncing the Pure Flame sect and returning Thaliost to Aundair prevents the Last War from reigniting at the cost of a massive internal schism. Jaela Daran issues certain clarifications in doctrine which weaken the Pure Flames philosophical underpinnings and many Pure Flame adherents repent.

Jaela Daran restructures the government of Thrane so that the Church SHARES power with Blood Regent Diani ir’Wyrnan. This weakens its temporal authority, but allows it to focus more on its true purpose.

She even helps deal with the taxation issue by working out a deal with House Kundarak. She directs Church Templars to The Realm Below in the Mror Holds to fight the daelkyr there, allowing House Kundarak and the Mror Holds to take and hold more ground in The Realm Below. The profits that House Kundarak would reap from this are enough to allow Thrane to ease the tax burden on its citizens and also remind the Pure Flame holdouts where the REAL fight should be directed: supernatural evil.

That’s the good ending.

Bad ending?

Thaliost reignites the Last War.

Bel Shalor weakens the Silver Flame enough to allow for multiple simultaneous Overlord releases across all of Eberron.

Thrane is invaded from all angles and effectively destroyed.

The players help determine the outcome of this story.
