  Sorry but, the guy sincerely loving and caring about his cat is NTA! &nbsp;Jesus, just acting like the cat should IMMEDIATELY be given away is so extreme for a potentially temporary situation. &nbsp;And for the wife to also be with this cat for 7 years and also insisting the cat must go ASAP - she obviously didn&apos;t love or much less, like this cat at all. &nbsp;I think the brother option and waiting just 2 weeks was a pretty good compromise to prevent the potential death of this poor cat. &nbsp;<br><br>I do not agree at all, he was certainly not the asshole, WTF??

  I understand the cat guy. If she&apos;s so allergic to the cat now, just all the cat hair and dander in their house is still going to greatly effect her. So them staying at parents house, or wife sucking it up for an additional two weeks and see how she does with just the leftover dander while not having the cat present seems like a fair compromise. Dropping an elder cat off at a shelter behind your partner&apos;s back is just diabolical.

  I&apos;m allergic to cats and I have two... I would never even think about getting rid of them. The wife in this story is actually diabolical in my opinion.

She developed allergies while she was pregnant. The discussion of rehoming the cats (we had a friend who would have been more than willing to take them) came up and she was adamant that she would rather deal with the allergies than see her babies go somewhere else. now we have our son and two cats absolutely adore him.

  I feel so bad for that cat, to spend its entire long life with its owner only to be dropped off in an unfamiliar place by their owner&apos;s partner. It had to have been so scared, and it died alone without it&apos;s human.<br>Cats are pretty fragile in their old age and aren&apos;t very flexible to change, op is pretty commendable for at least trying to find a solution, it&apos;s kind of rare since so many people don&apos;t care for elderly cats.

  The cat story is NTA in my opinion. I think initial solution was weird, but I could never forgive my husband if he dropped my beloved pet off at an animal shelter behind my back, especially when that pet has been with me for its entire life. I’d be concerned how she’d treat the baby when it’s no longer fun or convenient for her.

  S2: If the allergy was temporary, it was unreasonable for the wife to demand to get rid of the cat. I don&apos;t necessarily agree with leaving the house altogether, but the cat&apos;s dander would have been everywhere, so maybe her leaving was wiser in the short term. The fact that she just dropped a geriatric cat at a shelter w/o a care makes her a much bigger monster to me. That whole situation sounds awful.

  If my cat died because my wife did something like that AFTER i tried to rehome my cat ive had for years, DIVORCE. You clearly dont care about me and the things i love, and I&apos;d worry about how shed handle disagreements in parenting
