"On the day you're a Shrimp Boat Captain, that's the day I'm an Astronaut"
He would go on to play Ken Mattingly in another Tom Hanks movie the following year, Apollo 13

"we only accept the love we think we deserve". I leave this quote under every reaction to this movie because to me this simple yet brilliant line says it all about Jenny. Nothing more to say really.

As Jenny is a bird, so Forrest is a tree - a steady, rooted home for Jenny to always return to and leave. The branches in the frame behind him during the final monolog are a nice touch and even his name is tree related. To me it's the more powerful metaphor than Jenny as a bird

In case anyone is wondering, when Lt. Dan says to Forrest and Bubba "You must be my FNG's" he's actually saying "You must be my F___ing New Guys." You gotta earn respect in combat!

54:27 in the book which this is based off of, she has hepatitis. The director changed it for the movie, because when the movie came out HIV/AIDS was still near the height of it’s epidemic, and they were trying to bring awareness to it

This movie is the definition of “unconditional love”.

Every reactor is so taken aback by Forrest's namesake, General Nathan Bedford Forrest, that everyone seems to overlook the very next line after Forrest says "That's where I get my name." He immediately explains that his Momma named him that to remind Forrest that (3:37) "sometimes we do things that, well.. just don't make no sense." She (Momma) wanted to impart on Forrest a life-long lesson that people will often do things that make no sense, and not every action has a cause or a reason.

"Momma always had a way of explaining things so I could understand them."
