  I have two dogs. One likes to sleep with me at night and one likes to sleep on the couch. I am a combat vet with insomnia, so I wake up off and on at night. Every night I take the time to go sit on the couch with the dog who likes to sleep alone. When I wake, I go join her, and the other one comes also. We just sit there until I get tired again. Sometimes I fall asleep on the couch with both of them. I love my dogs. Dogs are the best medicine.<br>I have learned to love this channel.<br>Thank you so much for the insight you give.

  My dog does this kind of thing all the time, and honestly it really does feel like we are completely in sync. That bond is hard to explain unless you have lived it.

  I’ve noticed all of these, though now she’s blind some of them (gazing, yawning) are gone. But my heart overflows every time she leans into me, every time she falls asleep on me, ever time I feel her nudging me in my sleep. I’m not always a good dog-mom, but she is always a good dog.

  This might be a dumb question, and idk if you even answer questions like these in the comments, but that last &quot;calm separation&quot; fact made me think of it. My family has five dogs, and they have always said that I am our dog Max&apos;s person. We got him in March of 2018, the year I turned 13. I am the oldest of all of my siblings, so I definitely took care of him the most, feeding him, taking him on walks, most of all training him, and being his &quot;handler&quot; when we took all of our dogs to training classes. He also slept in my bed/ room for years, and I always remember him doing that sigh at bedtime because it became a kind of trigger for my body to relax. In 2024, I moved from home to go to college two hours away. It&apos;s still honestly really difficult for me to be away, but I always wondered how it affected him. I go home every chance I get, but definitely not as much as I would like. I wasn&apos;t worried that my dogs would forget me because they are all around middle age, and I&apos;ve been in their lives since they were puppies, but I guess my question is, is it possible that my dog will &quot;choose&quot; a new person since I&apos;m not around all the time anymore? He still acts exactly the same with me every time I go home, getting super excited when I walk in the door, resting his head on me when we&apos;re all sitting on the couch, bringing toys to me when he wants to play, and even sleeping with me, doing that relaxation sigh when it&apos;s bedtime. I&apos;m not sure if there is a clear-cut answer for this, but I thought no harm in asking.
