  &quot;detention center&quot; is a pretty fair translation; &quot;拘置&quot; (こうち; kōchi) is the legal act of detaining or confining prior to indictment, trial, or the execution of their sentence (pun not intended), and 所 (しょ; sho) is just a place. death row inmates end up there as well as a quirk of the japanese legal system; they technically are not actively serving their sentence under japanese law - their sentence is death, it hasnt begun until theyve been executed. his characterization of everyone being there for waiting is very accurate.

  Oh my god I literally walk past this once a week (up the Ayase canal towards Aoi) 😮! I always thought it was a little weird but yeah, it&apos;s not especially noteable from the outside, it just seems like &quot;why is that apartment block so far from the road?&quot;

  I can see it from my window, as I live close by. Sometimes I can hear sirens and I wonder who or what caused it. <br>Also, the plot is massive, hard to compare to anything in Tokyo. The detention center is built on the plot of an old palace, which was abandoned over 200 years ago. There’s an old moat, that’s what remained.<br><br>I often go jogging around there as it’s quite beautiful. I think they are purposefully trying to beautify the area to distract from the facility. They do that in other places too, like building lavish parks ontop of waste water facilities ect.
