Kahn brought the old style of goal keeping to an end. If you ever wanted to be better than him you needed to do something new. So Neuer did.

the fact that Neuer didn't win the ballon dor in 2014 is purely because he was a goalkeeper, if he had put up similar performances, but as a striker, he would own that Trophy.

Edit: If the reason Ronaldo won the Ballon d'Or that year is because of the champions League win over Bayern, then why did Messi still score over Neuer. Messi would've won the Ballon d'Or that year, If Ronaldo didn't exist, which just shows how underappreciated Neuer was in the Ballon d'Or Rankings.

I feel like he also had a profound impact on players morale. Like his teammates thinking „Don't worry, we got Manuel in the back" with his opponents thinking „Oh shit, they got Neuer in the back"

2014 proofed that (nowadays) it’s impossible for a GK to win the Ballon Dor.

17 Matches with 4 conceded, world champion and literally changing how the position is played in modern football. There was nothing he (or any GK) could do more. If that was not Ballondor worthy than no GK will win it ever again

In the 2014 world cup against france, neur saved Raphael varane's header from point blank range, that's when I knew my team france was not going past the quarter final. Neuer was excellent.

For us in Germany, hes the greatest Keeper to ever exist. It was an absolute pleasure and blessing to have him in our National-Team.

As a German I will never forget his performance against Algeria in 2014. We couldn't have blamed him if we had conceded 3 goals. I still can't understand how he managed to make us not lose

One thing that is completely missed in this video is the insane rate Neuer would save multi goals shots. Just bam, one player shoots, he palms it, falls to another player - Neuer is up, palms that and it lands at the feet of another incredible player who shoots and Neuer will just bloody catch it!!! No comparison. Greatest keeper of all time and to me, the 3rd best overall player of all time
