  I am a scientist. I know hundreds if not thousands of scientists. The VAST majority are not money motivated. They&apos;ll scrounge a living if it allows them to follow their passion. They will go to where there is money, not for profit, but to fund their research.<br><br>Also, they are well educated usually well meaning people. The US is increasingly hostile to such people.

  Tyler, one of the first signs of an authoritarian regime is its persecution of educated people. People are getting out while they can.

  I am Canadian. My son worked at NASA for 10 years in climate research. He left last year (along with a lot of his coworkers) except for the few that got jobs in other areas, and presently works in Japan. He is really happy, paid well, and unlikely to ever go back. Why would he? A country that doesn&apos;t value its brightest does not look appealing and money isn&apos;t everything.

  The US is far too unstable for intelligent people to see a future there so they&apos;ll go to stable countries

  The US runs anti education propaganda and expects educated people to just take it?<br>Your goverment has shut down kids cancer research as just one example.

  I work in HR dpt. of a research institute in Prague (Czech Republic) and I can confirm: Yes, this is really happening. The number of candidates from USA for positions on every level of scientific seniority in our institute has gone up in the recent 2 years. From PhD students to postdocs to tenured researchers. All levels with the exception of BSc and MSc students. Some of them are even ivy league graduates and researchers.<br>We are a decent research facility but nowhere near the level of Max Planck Institute in Germany or the ETH in Zurich. I imagine institutions like that must be flooded with applications from US.<br><br>And btw… Canadian universities are picking out the best teachers from the US universities like chocolate chips from a muffin.<br><br>It’s a brain drain of an epic scale.

  Why would scientists stay in a culture that rejects science? Just look at who’s in charge of the departments of health and education.
