I saw Psycho (1960) with the Cleveland Orchestra playing the music score live to projection. They did it very well (for long stretches you forgot there were musicians on the stage) but the notable part of the show was the audience. Nobody particularly winced during the shower scene–even if you never saw the movie, you know it's coming. But a small number of audience members scattered around the theatre had clearly had not seen the movie and had no idea the detective would be killed. So a handful of sincere screams erupted, then and during the fruit cellar scene.

Hitchcock saying no one could enter once the movie started running was a good use of FOMO to draw people in.

the twist with Norman Bates at the end of "Psycho" is a par with the "I am Your Father" NOOOOOOO scene from "The Empire Strikes Back"

9:43 LOVE LOVE LOVE Psych 2 & 3! Hulu gave me a pleasant surprise several years ago when I saw that Psycho was on there (I'd just began learning to navigate streaming after getting rid of cable) anyway, after the movie it said "next up: Psycho 2" I thought "Wait, what?" Amazing!

Because it repeated the original so closely - it seemed pointless.

Who would know that, years later, serial killer Ed Gein would inspire so many horror movies?

You can’t have Norman Bates played by Vince Vaughn. All his other movies like Swingers and Made shows him getting all these chicks all the time. I don’t know if he is type cast or not but Vince will never come off awkward and shy which is what you need for Norman Bates.

What did you think of Bates Motel? I remember watching when it first came out and absolutely loving it. I want to re-watch it but I'm afraid a re-watch might ruin my fond memory of it.
