  Knowledge is the most useful and most priceless tool a man can carry.  The rest are conveniences to put the knowledge into practice.  The more you know, the less you carry.

  I spent a decade in the Laurentians alone. First winter was the hardest. But also the most enlightening. But you know what, reintegrating back into society was harder than all that. I think I’m going back. No fear, no envy, no jealousy, no anxiety. Rocks trees and water is all I need.

  Cordage, sharp edges, fires starters, and other tools can all be manufactured with time in the back country. (Ive skinned &amp; field dressed deer, fish, and small animals with stone blades) Steel is much harder to make and last much longer. A good heavy blade 12&quot;-15&quot; long can do alot of work. I always have more than one....there is no substitute for knowledge, skills, practiced.....TY. for sharing your wisdom....

  I would have added a small pot to boil and drink out of, but the tool I would have gone back for would be my hatchet. &nbsp;I have carried it 46 years. It&apos;s sharp enough to clean &nbsp;game with. I wouldn&apos;t lose my knife, awl, and ferorod as they are always on my belt.

  Knife/ machete. I have a 14” blade I made that’s heavy enough to chop a &nbsp;sapling, I have used it for some craft work. I can make a strop with clay and sand smeared on a split board to service edges . I hope I could find a flint- my machete has a sharp square back-fire. I can make a water skin from. Rabbit or birch bark- heat pine pitch and charcoal to make glue/ sealant for seams. <br>Awl can be made from bone, siniew can be used. A kit bag can be made from brain tanned leather.

  These 7 basic tools are a historical starting point or last resort for survival (knife/cut, fire steel, hatchet/saw, awl/drill, needle, whetstone/file, bag). Of course &quot;Having is better than needing&quot;, so get your basic tools or carry them combined as multi tool (early swiss army folding knife or modern plier based leatherman style) for those very basic daily crafts. Don&apos;t forget to recognize and value better specialized tools for better work result quality, thats why workshops have so much more than just 7 (or 10) tools. Today technicians and engineers learn those basic tools first, before using specialized tools avoiding accidents, improving quality and boosting productivity.

  A knife for me you can build a shelter,start a fire ,mk animal traps cordage etc a very useful tool that could save your life
