Hawken rifles weren't from Pennsylvania. The company was in St Louis Missouri.

A tomahawk is a WEAPON that in a pinch served some utility tool functions.

For modern hikers looking to rock an older kit rope isn't a bad thing to add

Many of the photos showed items and ammunition not available or even invented in the fur trade era. They did not use their Green Rivers as a can opener as there wasn't any canned food in the fur trade era. The tin can made it to the west in the mid nineteenth century and later. It would have been excessively heavy to pack canned food while trapping. While interesting and containing legit facts the film was over dramatic and simplified. Larpenter is good source material for info near the end of and post rendezvous time. Russell is a very good source, but Bonneville tended to exaggerate and embellish. Firearms, Traps, and Tools of the Mountain Men is another excellent source book.

One section reminded me of a fellow who was in the Navy in WWII, where he told of some place where dead soldiers were gathered and butchered like cattle. He mentioned the price of one ethnicity over the other. I can’t recall where it was, but there’s probably plenty the general public was never told.<br>He also mentioned if an officer was killed while out to sea, his body was put in the same cooler or freezer as their food. As a young teenager, this didn’t really set well having a dead body in with food supply. Which I suspect a young kid has good sense knowing this isn’t kosher!
