It wasn't just men who died in the St Brices Day massacer, it was the death of one woman particulalry on that day, the sister of King Sven Forkbeard, that led to another major Danish invasion and eventually to Cnut becoming King of all England, Denmark, Norway and part of southern Sweden.

One of the strangest items I have seen, that was found in York during the 1970's dig at Coppergate, is a very large human coprolite that apparently came from a known Viking site there. So, some Viking, over a thousand years ago, seems to have been quite ill. Probably quite constipated, going by the size of the fossilised coprolite, but who really knows. So weird that something like that can survive and be fossilised. I believe it is on display at the museum in York.
