Just the thought of the amount of objects, structures and other treasures that are still unknown to us and waiting to be found make me a little giddy.

I love how history keeps revealing new discoveries that challenge what we thought we knew. Every new finding seems to tell a different story one of sophisticated civilizations, advanced knowledge, and remarkable achievements, not just the image of primitive, barbaric humans we've often been taught. The more we uncover, the more we realize there's still so much we don't know about our past.

Because of the layers, I think it buried over time. Viking raids were seasonal. Someone was burying booty over several seasons and didn't make it back at some point

Nothing brings out the bouquet of a good cabernet than a skillfully carved skull cup.

Fascinating! I wish we could learn more about glass items at that age. It is my understanding that glass was not easily available at that time;  it was a luxury item, scarce and expensive after the Roman Empire's decline disrupted supply chains. It makes sense that the glass objects were passed down from each generation. I think the glass was the most valuable, add on the emotional value of the family heirloom. Remarkable.

I always love learning the stories behind the artifacts, especially when the story sheds light on how cultures converged.

I got to see the Galloway Hoard at the Melbourne Museum just before Christmas, absolutely stunning, credit to Museum Scotland and Melbourne Museum for bringing it to Aus for us to see

Wouldn't those dirt balls be more likely just mud that was used to pick up scrap gold for remelting later.
