As long as you are addicted to drugs, you are the furthest from free as you can be. If the majority of people in slab city are on drugs, it's just a prison with no walls.

Rob seems like the kind of guy that is holding that place together. When he's gone the moral compass of that place will probably be gone as well. You can tell he's an anarchist who abides by the non-aggression principle and believes that someone's personal freedom ends at other people's rights. I can respect that. It came off, that the older folks had respect for each other and each other's property and a sense of obligation to their neighbors while a few of the younger ones came off as slackers and would eventually wear out their welcome.

My main impressions are of loneliness and boredom, utterly mind-numbing boredom. A primitive life for those who want it.

It’s nice that the 2 young guys who are so far from home, with no family, found friendship and look after each other. The world is a hard place.

Kudos to those who want and choose to live like this. I'm happy for them. Meanwhile, I love my long showers, air conditioning, clean & comfy home that I am happy to work for. Everyone has their own idea of their piece of heaven now don't they. ❤

My husband grew up living here off and on as a child with his father. His father was a Vietnam Veteran.

Rob seems to be the heart and soul of that place and without him I'm afraid it'll fall to pure chaos.

I wish I could meet Rob and talk to him, he truly is the kind of person I aspire to be... Just someone nice who understands that we never stop learning and growing from one another

I had no idea John Malkovich was selling coffee out of a camper. California is a unique place. 🤣

I've visited Slab City for decades. It's not a safe place, people do not get along, there is an amazing about of crime there. Mentally challenged persons there are self appointed Judge, Jury and Punishers. It's a place to disappear, not to live.
