Drugs killed Slab City! Once the people that kept that rift raft out of there passed away all the meth cooks and meth heads moved in and destroyed that place. Drugs are the main reason we cant have nice things! Its so sad. I always wanted to go see Salvation Mountain.

Back in the mid 90s when I was working on the geothermal power plant projects, I got to meet Leonard and get a tour of salvation Mountain. I used to visit him after work from time to time to bring him supplies and to listen to him tell his story. Even though I was staying in a hotel while working out of town, I would camp out there from time to time super friendly. It seems like once the old timers passed on his win the place started deteriorating. It’s like there was a loss of morals and ethics amongst the residence. It seems like it started attracting the wrong crowd.
