Orwell understood how terrifying the concept of "thought crimes" must be. Apparently so does this God.

If you tell yourself that you're a sinful creature, you will modify your behavior to match. The brain cannot tolerate dissonance.

I learned that if I was constantly focusing on my "sins" it just made it worse. When I left religion, I quit thinking about it and everything I was doing "wrong" fell away and I had no desire to do the things I was struggling with before. We are what we focus on. Let it go and quit worrying so much about it and it's not a big deal anymore. No more guilt and shame. It's almost like certain behaviors become an addiction BECAUSE of religion.

All this mixed with religious OCD is a horribly tormenting experience. I constantly felt like the essence of my very being was stained with wickedness and I was desperately trying to perform mental and physical rituals to feel clean. So glad I escaped from the mental prison of sin and purity. This is a very important topic.

Why does a god who created me this way, want me to change? How is it my responsibility to correct his f_ck up?

Deconstructing religion has helped me so much because instead of seeing sin as an all condemning fate I see my struggles as biological and easier to overcome

The biggest problem is the shame and guilt.

Your "ramblings" are more logical and compassionate than the arguments of any religious apologist I've ever heard.

I find funny how "everything is sin" like, you just cant live your life, you HAVE to live the PERFECT life. Expecting Perfection from unperfect beings is so stupid. I was like this last year. "Oh i cant do this, oh i cant do that." This makes life so pressuring to live. Like dude, just be a decent human being, a good person. Its ok to have flaws, just learn from the mistakes and try to be better then yesterday. We dont have to be perfect, we cant be perfect. I honestly hate this kind of "sinned from the womb" mentality. Well then just dont f*cking create anyone if everything is f*cked up from the very start without even a choice

I shared earlier about my alcoholism within the church and this is exactly what I encountered. You give "your cares unto the Lord" and never deal with the emotional root causes.
