To be fair, Gale is the only companion who can become a god.

"I'm not going to talk about gods and the likes"
Puts Withers on the list... you know the original god of death Jergal who split a fraction of his power making 3 (!) mortals into gods.

I am kind of surprised not to see Ansur here. In life he was an ancient bronze dragon, but in death he became an ancient dracolich. The thing is 99% of dracoliches are made by rituals completed by The Cult of The Dragon and the dragon itself. However, the game implies that Ansur did not come back through life due to necromantic magic, but by sheer force of will. So if willpower is not enough to resurect a legendary ancient dragon, I don't know what is.

Before watching, I think it's Vlaakith because she's a 17th-level minimum spellcasting lich.

There is lore to be found in a book in one of the masoleums in the cemetery in Act 3 that basically identifies Withers as Jergal or at least an avatar of Jergal without saying it directly.

Honourable mention IMO that nobody talks about is that Amelyssan is in the game, kind of. In Sarevok's tribunal. It's just a kind of husk of a spirit though, but her true power at its peak was immense and above anything in the game other than the direct gods. Peak Amelyssan is way stronger than everyone other than Mystra/Shar/Selune/Withers. Even Vlaakith would get CLAPPED. Elminster EZ. If there's an essence of that true power in there somewhere and a way to get the power back, she's worth a thought.
