  Spock’s love story in this episode is beautiful. That last line get me every time.

  Kirk's separation from the Enterprise is what gave him the angry emotions that snapped him out of the influence of the spores.. With Spock his dual personality struggled in pain when he was affected by the spores, but love won out (interesting) and it kind of fits his last line said with a solemn tone in his voice. Having Jill Ireland guest star was a real "get" for the time, just before she became famous in the movies.  My favorite scene is Layla & Spock in the transporter room.. The Love Theme was perfect. The soundtrack to TOS can be taken for granted today, but in that day Desilu was harvesting the talents of motion picture composers to furnish music, thanks to the connection of Desilu owner, Lucille Ball. I think the episode was a metaphor for "hippie colonies" of the sixties promising a life of pure contentment, but turned out not to be the case eventually.

  Not just Kirk's willpower being shown here, but also the power of looovve! Even without the spores Laila still loved Spock, and WITH the spores Kirk still loved the Enterprise. When a person loves something enough the willpower is at full force. I think even McCoy could've willpowered out of it, faced with a future that needs no doctor. His love of walking up to people and giving them surprise injections would be to great for the spores.

  There was a character named Elias in the 1983 miniseries "V", its sequel, and ill-fated weekly TV series that followed. Michael Wright was a great actor...

  This really is a pretty good episode, slightly overlooked and underrated.<br>In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2026) there are criticisms about the Spock and La&apos;An relationship.<br>Spock during the Pike era was younger than we saw with Kirk. &nbsp;He&apos;s a complex being, with emotions that he struggles to suppress.

  The character of Dr. Leonard McCoy (according to Trek canon) was born in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2227. He attended the University of Mississippi. And, yes, De Kelley allowed the southern accent to surface in several episodes wherein the doctor&apos;s personal defenses slipped. Thanks for another great reaction. The line about your exes had me laughing out loud again.

  I was kind of surprised at the distance between the landing party when they first beamed down. They were standing closer to each other in the transporter room.

  Excellent episode! &nbsp;I would eat a bowl full of those spores for that blonde woman. &nbsp;But Spock&apos;s remorse at the end was sad and touching.
