Back then, we used to read the manuals and all the little details about the enemy types and powerups, and for us, that was what would today probably be called "lore" by people lol. It might seem silly to people today, but we would see exploring those little sidescrolling worlds as being every bit as rewarding as people today do more complex 3D Mario games in terms of the, "What happens if I go over here and do this?" factor. Mario 3 and SMW felt like the most anticipated games ever at the time of their release to me. Mario 64 melted our brains.

It is always nice to know some companies give credit where credit is due.

My brother got the Sega Genesis for Christmas and all my cousins were going to his room to play Altered Beast and Golden Axe while I still had my Nintendo, than Super Mario 3 came out and now it was my turn lol 😁

Excellent video. I am not into video games anymore but at one time it was all I would do, play video games. I remember when I first got the super Mario bros 64, that was the real game changer, the middle point that separates what games were like before 1996 to what they are today. We were used to seeing graphics get better with each console. Every game we played was a step or two ahead of last year’s competition. With Mario 64, it was a quantum leap, one that we weren’t quite sure  how to handle it. I remember my friend and I playing Mario 64 thinking whoa, this is something else. Loved the history of Mario, been there from donkey Kong and the original Mario bros all the way through to Mario sunshine. Keep up the great work.

I was anticipating Mario Maker 2 to include Super Mario Land elements I was so disappointed it wasn't included.

Actually Charles Martinet first voiced Mario in 1994 in Mario Teaches Typing.

This was a really good concise history of Mario and a lot of fond memories for me. So, there was a time where you could play Mario, while waiting to get a Big Mac. You mentioned Super Mario Sunshine, and there was a time, when this game came out you could play it at McDonald's.

Super Mario Run is actually really good on an iPad.  It is mostly about timing and memory but it’s nice

&quot; He&apos;s thinking about story first, not code&quot;<br>Too bad that changed over time, Mr. Miyamoto.

I enjoyed this video all the way through. I loved how you explain things. I mean a lot of these things I already knew but just the way this video was made was just so good
