  I am a yacht owner and have had my Beneteau 51.1 for 5 years. I &quot;learned&quot; so much, too much from youtube. I ended up believing the boat would sink everytime I took her out or she would break anchor and hit the shore in the middle of the night evertime we anchored off. What I have learned is being prepared is important but real problems are actually rare. Enjoy your sailing, enjoy your boat, stay calm and make decisions slowly. James is a great guy, many youtube channels exist to entertain not inform. Fair winds.

  i&apos;m poor. and now i&apos;m old. always had cheap-o sailboats. almost always sailed without a motor. only handheld vhf. i had to look up AIS. sounds fantastic. never had radar. some boats had a windvane. boy, that was helpful. anyway, i just wanted to tell you how intelligent your advice is. really good advice.

  I bought a boat last year. Did some practice in the summer before I got a winter season spot in my local marina. <br>Over the winter, I did some upgrades and maintenance. In January, I got an email from the marina, offering me a spot all year. I told my wife I wanted to take it. So we could have more time preparing the boat. She told me we would never leave if I took this spot. So I said no. <br>And in April, we left Bergen and sailed to Tromsø. Without wind instruments, autopilot and solar. Because we didn&apos;t have time to fix it. We had an old chart plotter and Orca on our phones. Luckily, we had 4G and 5G all the way. <br><br>My neighbour in the marina had the same plans. And she has a boat from 2008 in great condition. My boat is from 1985 and is in good condition. She wanted to make her boat more ready. So she took the spot I declined. And she is still in the marina. Living in her boat. And she will probably never leave.

  As a 13-year USAF Medic, #6 is something we do often when shit hits the fan during PT care. The lead Medic or Doc will often call &quot;pause&quot; - we all take 30 seconds or so to take a deep breath and discuss the situation and immediate actions while calm and level headed. Nailed it James! Well done Sir!

  The biggest change in my stress level came from finally buying a true offshore boat. Worrying endlessly aboard a lightly built ericson was vastly different from the comfort I feel aboard my Tashiba 40.

  My biggest fear, the thing that holds me back is choosing a weather window I&apos;m comfortable with. I just sailed 6 months and over 3500 miles up the east coast of Australia and back on my 22 foot trailer sailer. I tried to wait for weather windows with max 15 knots of wind and max 2 metre (7 foot) waves. The waiting does my head in.
