It's May 2026 and this has just popped up on my feed. Timely.

That comment on Rishi Sunak doing in Boris is crazy to hear given what soon transpired. Top stuff!

Lloyd George winning WW1 by his peerless chairing of committees had me dying. 😅😅😅

I always thought Gordon Brown bore a striking resemblance to Terry Jones of Monty Python fame. It would have made for a fantastic skit with Graham Chapman as Mrs Thatcher

Blair was the beneficiary of reforms which others had implemented: Thatcher's economic reforms and Kinnock's reforms of the Labour party. In that sense he was twice blessed.
He departed just before the proverbial hit the fan. Six weeks later there was a run on Northern Rock which preceded the full blown global financial crisis a year later.

You guys need to get in the habit of saying the year when you say: "We're recording this podcast on June 14...."
It's a great recording... I have confidence it will last longer than 6 months. You should too!

The most posh thing Tom has ever said was "I went to a dinner party where we had to recite a something we found moving," and then he read out a speech by Churchill.

Dennis Healy had a very high opinion of Jim Callaghan . He really had no chance given circumstances.

I'm not sure that Harold Wilson stands alone when it comes to the political rise and fall and rise again. I think you could say that Churchill lost his political capital and then won it back.

In 1997, Blair and Brown took over an economy in great shape. Government finances and current account were both in balance. (Neither have been since). Brown's economic 'success' was down to various Ponzi schemes he implemented: rising house prices, rising government expenditure, rising financial markets and high levels of immigration by single, working people. Blair himself commissioned a report that confirmed that Brown's apparent success as Chancellor was due to these factors rather than a genuine economic recovery.
