  The start of this Robin Hood discussion reminded me of a Blackadder scene.<br><br>Baldrick: &quot;My favorite&apos;s the Shadow. What a man!   My father who was a child in the 1930s was excited to see a live production of Robin Hood but was crestfallen when it turned out to be a ballet.

  The 1980s TV series of Robin Hood is the best. Plus a Clannad soundtrack. Faaabulous.

  The Adventures of Robin Hood starring Errol Flynn was my childhood entre into the concept of Englishness followed instantly by the Basil Rathbone/Nigel Bruce Sherlock Holmes movies. My older brothers explained the time and setting as we watched together as well as the fact that these people with the elegant or funny sounding accents and odd ways represented the world of our ancestry. When I was 5 my parents went on a long trip to Europe and I was terrified that they would get their heads cut off in London.

  Robin and Marian is my favorite. Sean Connery&apos; as an aging Robin with Audrey Hepburn as Marian were terrific. Robert Shaw&apos;s Sheriff of Nottingham and Richard Harris as King Richard are also the best character portrayals imaginable.
