  As a high school senior in May 1965 I found a Life Magazine in my social studies classroom. “One Ride on Yankee Popa 13” changed my life. That was the article photographed by Larry Burroughs and referred to in this excellent video. The next month I enlisted in the Marine Corps with aviation guarantee. I wanted to serve like those men in that article were doing. In March 1967 I joined VMO-2 at Marble Mountain Vietnam. Serving in that squadron was the greatest experience of my life. As was said about the Marines who fought earlier in World War Two: “Uncommon courage was a common virtue “<br>Thank you for the tribute to those brave young men.

  The videos of the helicopters being pushed into the sea was and still is one of the saddest things I have ever seen.

  At this same time as I sit here watching this, there are pictures of my father with his company, and two US-34&apos;s these pictures have been here at my home house &nbsp;for 60+ years, my father name Sgt John Perry &nbsp;retired with 34 years Army, am a retired Dependent, from Germany, as well as Fort Hood, Texas McNair Village Casablanca &nbsp;Road!!

  The evacuation of Saigon and the fall of South Vietnam looked an awful lot like are withdraw from Afghanistan. I&apos;m a Retired Force Recon Marine I served 2 deployments in Iraq and 3 in Afghanistan. The way we withdrew left me feeling like it was all for absolutely nothing. The friends I lost there the blood sweat and tears I shed there was all for nothing. I was badly wounded on my 3rd deployment in Afghanistan. I&apos;m alive because an Army Medavac chose to come get me when they didn&apos;t have to. They were the closest hears the thing they were on their way back after already having been under fire picking up some non Critically wounded. They chose to fly into a Hornets Nest to get me.   I feel for the soldiers who fought in Vietnam but the Vietnamese were fighting for their independence after the French occupation

  Say what you want about the war in Vietnam, but nobody can deny the courage it took to not want to go and then go anyway. The enlisted members followed orders and did their best to get themselves and their fellow service members home alive.<br> I know I wouldn&apos;t have wanted to go and would have been scared to death
