  I was a warrant driving Hueys in 1969 and these guys are telling it like it was.  I named my son after my flight school buddy who came back in a box and would now be 75 but died when he was 20.  What a bummer!  Best of luck to all of us!

  They call the generation that we're in WW2 the greatest generation. These young men that went to Vietnam were right up there with them.

  This is why I love watching war stories that are told by veterans themselves, there's no arrogance. Just normal people that didn't realize themselves what they were capable of. Respect.

  As a Vietnam Veteran, I remember those choppers well. Those Hueys were either taking us into Hell or bringing us out of it!🇺🇸🪖

  My husband was also a door gunner in 1967-68.  He was camped at Xuan Loc, he was with the H&H Troop, 2nd Squadron, 11th Cavalry.

  I was a door gunner in the 68th assault helicopter company. I ha twin m60s on my sit with a free gunner next to me. On the other side was my crew chief with his m60. Next to him we had a 50caliber machine gun. That we traded a pt boat crew. A LARGE amount OF C Rations which they loved. we also had a large bladder of jp4 fuel which we injected into the hot exhaust which made a dense cloud of smoke which would hide the debarking soldiers. We went by the name Smokey1

  How many people out there felt like me just watching this. Petrified and shaking.  Their action waa beyond words mind bending stuff.   One of the most extraordinary stories iv ever heard.   And Larry' not being able to hover at 9 hrs with a solo  pass at 10 hrs.  Then surviving and becoming an ace. in extreme conditions. Within 12 months.  Is there any story anywhere in the world  that has ever shown such incompetence become such mastery??  If that's not an rxample of perseverance and determination  i don't know what is. Absolutely amazing demonstration of human capacity. Extraordinary humans

  There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that these guys were heroes, and they did the only thing they could do, and that was to try and rescue the troops pinned down, the determination to get down through the bamboo and successfully create a DZ took incredible control and skill.

  Al Croteau is the uncle of my coworker. He is the chairman of our school advisory board for my Auto Tech shop where I am an instructor. I am proud to know him, he is an active and caring mentor to us. Just a great man and one of the greatest of his generation. I thank him for his service to our country.

  Men of conscious, honor and duty.  To be troubled and haunted by the thought of leaving one man behind shows he is a deeply principled person.
