  I&apos;ve gone through many phases and gear changes in my musical journey and have come to appreciate simplicity and minimalism; for me, less gear = more playing and writing music. I feel at home playing a Telecaster and a Vox AC15. I just love the dynamics of this combo.

  &quot;No-one knows better than You&quot; is actually the most sensible piece of advice ever when it comes to rating gear - you come to realize (when you have a few miles on the clock) that you play acording to what you feel, whatever gear you&apos;re using.

  Welcome home, brother! Many people develop a bad case of G.A.S. (gear acquisition syndrome). &nbsp;I began playing when I was eight years old (I&apos;m 67 now), I have been through all the usual stages that people go through, and as you might imagine, I have tons of gear that I don&apos;t use anymore. I gig once or twice each month, but in the last fifteen years my rig has become very minimal. I only use functional, lightweight equipment.

  There are two things I’ve learned since playing for the past seven years: the two things that can affect tone <i>the most</i> are the speaker and using an EQ pedal. I’ve ended up selling most of my amps and now I just have a Vox AC30 and a Hughes &amp; Kettner TubeMeister (got really good deals on used ones). <br><br>Using my Vox and a Boss EQ I can get any tone from the Beatles to Judas Priest’s British Steel tone to early Black Sabbath style wall of fuzz with a cheap $60 fuzz pedal. Anything modern with high gain I can play on the TubeMeister. I have two 2x12’s; one loaded with Celestion Alnico golds and the other loaded with Eminence CV75’s. While my setup isn’t “cheap” I certainly was able to save up over time and not cost me an arm and a leg by waiting for good used deals on the amps, pedals and guitars.

  I’ve never had more than 3 guitars at a time and for at least the last 30 years of gigs and home playing I was more into amps. Pedals were a necessary evil to give some versatility in a live setting, and once I found a couple of Barber OD’s fifteen or so years ago that could boost my crunchy Marshalls and just sound like the amp, but more, I stopped looking.<br>More recently, for the last decade I’ve settled on singlecut LP Specials as my #1 and a 2019 TV Yellow with P90’s/wraparound has been my only guitar the last nearly 5 years. A couple of vintage JMP2203’s shared #1 for many years but for the last 5 years it’s been a 67 1987/68 G12M halfstack and a 71 1987/68 G12M halfstack sharing the top spot. I guess I always like to have a like for like backup when it comes to amps. Anyway, straight in and turned up till they crunch is the sound in my head. Which makes sense because that is pretty much what all my fave players of the 60’s and 70’s used.<br>But reality gets in the way and I needed a lightweight amp for small jams and gigs, so I got a AC4 C1-12 about 8 months ago and I’m actually quiet liking it for the old school blues and 60’s/70’s classic rocks we do.<br>Had to break out my old Barber pedals and a Boss tuner I’ve had for 25+ years.

  Me. A good verb, tremolo, analog delay and a light drive. &nbsp;Set up in wet dry 2 amp situation. &nbsp;Love it!! Lose time playing this set up.

  Have been through a LOT of gear the 30+ years playing guitar. Overdrive pedals are easy to get hung up on, but i found most of them sound very similar. It is literally 4 different OD circuits EVERY OD pedal is based off of 😂. I use a Xotic BB, a Boss od-3, and a cheap ass klon clone. I seriously have everthing i need in those 3 pedals. I sold a lot of guitars/amps/pedals the last few years, and cause of it, i can actually play instead of fixating on gear. 🙂

  Like you, I’ve already gone through so many guitars/pedals/amps myself as I’ve just phased in and out my musical styles. I don’t even have my nice Fender teles anymore because while I’m back playing in a band I just don’t feel comfortable bringing nice gear to places and they’d end up as case queens. I’d rather re-house them for a player that’d get more out of it. I just stick to my acoustic I’ve had since my pre teen years, my two Sterling Cutlasses for my new band, and now I’m recent acquirement a HILS 7 string headless not for metal (maybe sometimes) but for ambient/post rock project I want to do. Perfect for sitting in my studio, having all the notes at my disposal, and just make soundscapes. And even then, this is gonna be my last band as I’m getting up there in age and I just need to buckle down for me-time. My Cutlasses will be sold and I’ll put it towards another one or two headless guitars and by god will be finalized in my ownership lol. <br><br>Aside from that, I just have room for my modelers and laptop with plugins. Maybe I’ll get back to pedals and amps but it’d have to be VERY compact and specifically purposed. Just can’t do the whole apeshit approach in that part of music anymore.<br><br>I’ve gone minimalist and it’s so much more freeing! Thanks for sharing your content!

  Wow, talk about timing.<br>It&apos;s Sunday morning here and I just came back from watching the sun rise over the ocean, and was in a meditative mode having just asked God what I needed to do next. Once home I decided to make a cup of tea to warm up and watch some YT, and this was the video I clicked on.<br><br>I&apos;ve been going through a similar thought process with my gear as I have way too much of it.<br><br>I have a bass on order for nearly a year that I think will be the main player as it&apos;s a variant on my usual favourite. I already have a fave guitar and now am going to go through the process of setting up all my instruments, playing them all again and seeing which ones my hands keep reaching for again. The rest can go.<br><br>FOMO is a bitch though as a couple of instruments I&apos;ve wanted for ages have come up for sale. They&apos;re not common so now I need to decide whether to get them and try them, or just let them pass me by. It&apos;s going to be an interesting process.

  I have gone through all of this, and have been playing live since the late 70s, yes I am old, but still play shows every week. I have owned atleast 10 different brands of amp, atleast 30 diff guitars, &nbsp;a hundred pedals or more,. chased every tone you can think of,... lol . What gear I use now is dependent on which band i am performing with. Hate to say it, &nbsp;but i am never going to be super simplistic. effects, tunings, capos, guitar swaps, all also depends on the genre and band i am playing with. I have a hard rock board, a softer classic rock board, and a country band board, all with different brands on, and go with fender, marshall, mesa amps accordingly. Les pauls, strats, and teles are my usual go tos although i have ibanez and esp and prs i like to use too.

  Hi Jonathan,good subject to get aware what you want to hold on to,to guitars amps and effects.<br>I&apos;ve owned a lot of equipement through the years,sold off a lot of it,without regret but still a lot of great memories.Still i own way too much,for what i need and use.Though for me,it&apos;s also still an investment interest.<br>To amps,i like your Rivera M-100 head,it&apos;s like a Dumble and don&apos;t forget the Slavemaster channel.I own many Rivera&apos;s but mostly play my THC Sunset 212 &nbsp;reverb,with the best cleansound i know.<br><br>The money i&apos;ve spended to this ,is a small fortune,the experience to this,is worth much more.
